King charles ii5/22/2023 ![]() ![]() Even artistic production, which had declined in Castile because of a lack of court patronage, flourished in provincial cities such as Seville. In fact, much administrative and fiscal reform that has been attributed to the reign of the Bourbon kings in the eighteenth century may well have had its roots in the last decades of the seventeenth in the regions outside Castile. Although military dominance in Europe clearly passed to the French, recent research indicates that within Spain, population growth, agricultural output, and textile manufacture all began to recover under the reign of Charles II. While the court in Madrid was preoccupied with its internal power struggles, other regions of Spain experienced a gradual recovery. Recent studies of the "decline of Spain" argument, however, have questioned whether Charles's reign was truly as disastrous as it appears. Historians of Spain have paid little attention to the late seventeenth century, and those who have described Spain during the reign of Charles II reserve their harshest criticism for the king, associating his personal weaknesses with Spain's decline. Anticipating this, the other European powers, particularly France and Austria, spent much of his reign designing plans to partition Spain, and his death in 1700 resulted in the twelve-year War of the Spanish Succession. Charles's final failure was his inability to leave an heir. The influence of the aristocracy in the court, but because of factional conflicts, no single minister was able to accomplish much or to remain in power for more than a few years. During the 1680s and 1690s, the king also relied on the assistance of a series of ministers. In addition to Mariana of Austria, the most significant of these were Charles's half-brother Don Juan Jos é of Austria (an illegitimate son of Philip IV), a charismatic and popular figure in the court and a constant focus of opposition to the queen mother, and Charles's second wife, Mariana of Neuburg, whom he married in 1689. As a result, there was constant competition to gain access to the king, and factions developed around the individuals most likely to be able to control him. When Charles came of age in 1676, he too depended on the assistance of others in the court. His mother, Mariana of Austria, acted as regent and relied on a series of favorites (including her confessor, Juan Everard Nithard, and Fernando de Valenzuela, the husband of one of her servants) to assist her in the tasks of government. Charles inherited his throne in 1665 at the age of four. In the last years of his life he was rumored to be bewitched and underwent an exorcism to expel his demons.Ĭharles's reign was characterized by factionalism in which various figures in the court competed for control in the power vacuum left by the absence of a strong king. Even in adulthood he did not often attend the meetings of important government councils or countersign their deliberations official documents generally bear a facsimile of his signature rather than the original. He was never able to read and write well, and did not master other basic courtly skills such as horsemanship and fencing. Given Charles's weak physical condition, it was generally assumed that he was lacking in intelligence as well, and little was required of him in the way of educational training. The product of generations of inbreeding between the Spanish and Austrian branches of the Habsburg family, he was sickly, frail, and possibly epileptic. Plagued by poor leadership, monetary inflation, bankruptcy, and a series of military defeats, Spain in the later seventeenth century surrendered its primacy on the European stage to France.Ĭharles as an individual was sadly symbolic of this decline, as he was known more for his physical infirmity and absence from government than for his accomplishments. The reign of Charles II is perhaps best known for the decline of this empire. From the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella in the fifteenth century through that of Philip IV in the mid-seventeenth century, Spain was the major power in western Europe, possessing a rich colonial empire and respected for its military prowess as well as its literary and artistic accomplishments. ![]() CHARLES II (SPAIN) (1661 –1700), king of Spain, Naples, and Sicily (1665 –1700), son of Philip IV, and the last Habsburg ruler of Spain. ![]()

Adobe dreamweaver cc 13.05/22/2023 ![]() Cool Edit Pro v2 added support for real-time non-destructive processing, and v2.1 added support for surround sound mixing and unlimited simultaneous tracks (up to the limit imposed by the computer hardware). Audio processing, however, was done in a destructive manner (at the time, most computers were not powerful enough in terms of processor performance and memory capacity to perform non-destructive operations in real-time). Syntrillium later released Cool Edit Pro, which added the capability to work with multiple tracks as well as other features. The full version was useful and flexible, particularly for its time. Originally developed by Syntrillium as Cool Edit, the program was distributed as crippleware for Windows computers. I very much resent you guys trying to write the obituary of the WYSIWYG page creation program. And here's my point: I wouldn't bother you folks talking about myself if I imagined I were the only person in the world with needs like mine. I'd replace it in a heartbeat if I had an alternative, but since there isn't it will remain the basic tool of my trade. It' got bugs that Adobe must know all about but has never bothered to fix, it's clumsy and over-complex, and its cost is outrageous. As I say, I use Dreamweaver, because it's the only Apple program on the market since the demise of such rivals as Claris Home Page. My philosophy is to go in and write, or at least manipulate, actual code as little as possible. I operate a Web site which is very heavily text-oriented, and most of the time I use Dreamweaver as a kind of specialized word processor (I wouldn't have to do this if there were any actual word-processor which exported halfway decent text in html format, but I've tried them all and I can guarantee you that there isn't). For others, Dreamweaver isn’t even under their radar at this point, and using it does more harm than good. For them, it’s an ok tool as long as they use it correctly. Adobe is probably bringing this version of Dreamweaver to existing users who are forced to use it in a big corporation or a design studio. Real coders use a serious text editor.ĭreamweaver’s latest set of features are geared toward coders, but they don’t realize that web developers nowadays already use those features through an array of command line tools and a decent code editor, so they will likely yawn. The majority of potential employers will cringe at your tool choice if you use Dreamweaver. But in that case, you are practically using Brackets.app inside Dreamweaver.Īnyone who is serious about web development and wants to get a decent job should skip it and go straight to a more robust code editor such as Atom, Sublime Text, Brackets, BBEdit, and so on. It is an ok tool if you turn off its visual editor and Live Preview and use it strictly as a code editor. Dreamweaver CC 2017 is essentially Brackets.app (Open Source, free and cross-platform) with a lot of unnecessary features, bundled with terrible reputations. ![]()

Paul mccartney documentary5/22/2023 ![]() ![]() “We didn’t want to do a touring Beatlemania doc. “We didn’t need to do another Beatles doc,” Pollack says. In the course of the three-hour series (which was whittled down from 15 hours of footage), McCartney and Rubin revisit roughly three dozen songs from the first quarter century of the McCartney catalog, ranging from his earliest experiments to Beatles classics to a couple of cuts from McCartney II. Each episode consists of excerpts from an extended conversation between McCartney and Rubin, who filmed for two days at a hastily assembled soundstage near McCartney’s Hamptons home last August. It is, as Pollack puts it, “a very intimate discussion between two music greats.” The only talking heads here are McCartney and super-producer Rick Rubin, who leads McCartney on a mystery tour of his musical accomplishments, prompting Paul to chime in about how he or his Beatle bandmates wrote this or played that. Unlike previous Pollack-produced looks at Laurel Canyon, Johnny Cash, and Frank Sinatra, McCartney 3, 2, 1 isn’t a standard documentary. By centering the songs, McCartney 3, 2, 1 captures its subject’s wonder at the way in which he and his friends made music-which, unlike memory, doesn’t degrade or sound stale, even after 50-plus years. But what the series lacks in previously unheard information about the Beatles’ lives, it more than makes up for in celebrating and documenting the minor miracles that occurred when they came together inside the studio. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” two days after its release (an anecdote that often graces McCartney’s concerts and talk-show appearances) how he helped Lennon make “Come Together” sound swampy how a depressed Paul retreated to Scotland and went back to basics after the Beatles broke up how he and first wife, Linda, were robbed in Lagos and lost their demos for Band on the Run. McCartney connoisseurs will recognize plenty of repeated tales in Hulu’s long and winding ode to McCartney’s musical genius, which was released on Friday: how he and John Lennon met and made the perfect partners how he heard “Yesterday” in his dreams how Jimi Hendrix covered “Sgt. ![]() ![]() When I talk to EP Jeff Pollack, a longtime movie music supervisor, he cuts in to question me about McCartney 3, 2, 1 first: “What was new for you? Were there any new stories?” ![]() Eliciting something fresh seems to have been one of the producers’ primary concerns. Therein lay the challenge for the makers of McCartney 3, 2, 1: how to induce one of the most-interviewed men in the world (and, perhaps, in history) to say something he hasn’t said (or even thought) in more than half a century of talking about a band that last recorded before he turned 28. Now I look back and I was working with John Lennon.” That telltale “I say” at the start of the statement suggests that even this is a remark he’s made before. Does he remember being in the Beatles, or is he remembering remembering being in the Beatles? And how can he separate how it happened then from what he knows now? As McCartney says in Hulu’s new six-part docuseries about Beatle Paul, McCartney 3, 2, 1, “I say I look back, and at the time, I was just working with this bloke called John. And the older we get, the less likely we are to relive events via vivid, specific details (“verbatim memories”) as opposed to fuzzy, general representations of past events (“gist memories”).Īll of which makes me wonder what happens in the hippocampus of Paul McCartney when the 79-year-old former Beatle is asked about his 20-something self. Each time we exhume a memory for our own inspection, or tweak a retelling to get a laugh or coax a cry, we run the risk of unwittingly altering the original recollection. The more we retrieve and recount them, the more they may change. ![]()
